This morning we opened our first bottle of homemade apple "beer" that he helped make, (see earlier blog post), and let Barry have the first taste. It was very fizzy and not too sweet. After breakfast, it was off to Sterling Elementary School, a school in the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District (KPBSD), which is larger in area than the state of West Virginia!!!! It was time for family archery! Barry enjoyed going inside the school for the 1st time and meeting some of our school friends. Our principal, Christine Ermold, (Alaska's distinguished principal of the year 2009), was so excited to finally meet Barry and gave him a warm welcome. (top left). She is also a certified archery instructor, avid bow hunter, Miss Alaska 1996 and the greatest principal ever! Dan is also an archery instructor and he enjoyed teaching Barry the ropes. Suzanne & Barry, (second row far right), enjoyed some friendly competition as they shot arrows side by side into the shared target. Dan commented that Barry is a natural and he got some near bulls eyes. Pretty good for never having done it before! Barry also enjoyed meeting Trent, a student from this years class and Luke, (Christine's son) who will be in Suzanne's class this fall. Luke helped us move chairs for the "meet and greet Barry" Barbecue next Saturday! (see botttom left photo). Before we left, Suzanne took Barry down to her kindergarten classroom. Since he talked to the students all year, he was excited to finally see it even though all the furniture was pushed to the side. However, that will change before Barry leaves since he will help her move it back into place to get ready for a whole new batch of kindergartners!
...nothing like a good glass of beer before school in the morning! Haha, just kidding. I couldn't resist :-)
