July 5 : On the Homefront

This morning, Suzanne made Barry her favorite breakfast of steel-cut oatmeal, berries, yogurt, walnuts & cinnamon.... mmmm....delicious & healthy! After the trip to Nikiski & Old Town Kenai, we stopped at the winery supply store to stock up on rootbeer making stuff. So tonight, after playing hide-and-go- seek with Kami in the hallway, B got to participate in another family favorite activity, making soda. We usually make rootbeer but tonight we made apple beer. Kimberly is shown here cooking up the apple juice and yeast mixture on the stove. Everybody had a job; Barry organized the empty bottles, Kimberly put the mixture into the bottles, Kami organized the bottle caps, Dan capped the bottles and Suzanne took the pics. Soon, however, Barry took over as the bottle capper and became an expert at it. The filled and capped bottles are now sitting back in our cool storage area and hopefully Barry will be able to enjoy some apple beer before he leaves for home!
